Marrakesh participates in the GEF-7 UrbanShift program implemented by UNDP, in partnership with the Government of Morocco and the City of Marrakesh. Located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, this rapidly growing city faces urban challenges linked to water scarcity, extreme temperatures, and climate vulnerability. UrbanShift promotes integrated urban planning and innovative financing instruments to guide low-carbon, inclusive development. The program advances sustainable mobility, nature-based solutions, and agrobiodiversity pilots, while supporting reforms in urban planning, waste management, and water resource management to strengthen resilience and environmental stewardship across Marrakesh’s expanding metropolitan area.
