Located in Limpopo Province, Vhembe District Municipality participates in the GEF-8 Sustainable Cities Integrated Program (SCIP), which supports municipalities in addressing interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable urban development.

The project seeks to strengthen Vhembe’s capacity to incorporate climate and biodiversity considerations into municipal policies and planning, responding to growing pressures on natural ecosystems and increasing exposure to climate risks, including droughts, flooding, and changing rainfall patterns. Through improved governance, knowledge strengthening, and integrated planning approaches, Vhembe will work toward more inclusive, low-carbon, nature-positive, and climate-resilient development.
