Kremena Ionkova is the Global Lead for Waste Management & Circularity at the World Bank, with 26 years of experience in urban infrastructure and development worldwide. She co-chairs the World Bank’s Solid Waste Management Community of Practice, advancing thought leadership in the sector.

Kremena engages in high-level policy dialogue with governments across the Global South. She has successfully led multidisciplinary teams in delivering large-scale investment and reform programs in local infrastructure, public services, and utility enterprises. Kremena leads flagship policy and governance publications, with a strong commitment to driving progress in pollution reduction and environmental sustainability.
