What a Waste 3.0 is the World Bank's flagship report on municipal solid waste management towards circularity and the most comprehensive global assessment of the sector published. Building on the widely used What a Waste 2.0 report, which has become the global reference for waste management data and analysis, this new edition provides updated information from 217 countries and 262 cities, with projections through 2050. The report offers the most comprehensive globally comparable dataset on municipal solid waste management, covering waste generation, collection, treatment, disposal, plastics, financing, employment, and greenhouse gas emissions.

This webinar will present the report's key findings and discuss their relevance for GEF-8 Sustainable Cities Integrated Program (SCIP) cities, World Bank operations, and partner organizations. Participants will explore how the report's evidence, datasets, and practical insights can support urban planning, project design, policy development, and investment decisions to advance circular economy approaches and more sustainable municipal solid waste management. Executive summaries are available in English, French, Spanish, and Japanese, making the report accessible to a broad international audience.
