Most of the world's GHG emissions are produced in cities, however, it is through city leadership that real achievements can be made toward low carbon societies. Real estate and the build environment offer incredible promise for helping cities achieve net zero emission targets; however, being able to innovate to better serve vulnerable populations, while also reducing emissions and advancing more sustainable development patterns is a complex challenge. How can cities decarbonize the built environment in a just way? What type of partnership and innovation between cities and the real estate sector are needed help cities to meet these ambitions?

In this session, the Reall Climate Lead, Tom Woodward, will share about challenges and opportunities to advancing both commercially and environmentally viable real estate. We will also be joined by Wendy Haryanto, Executive Director of Jakarta Property Institute, who will share about Jakarta's housing challenges and how partners are working to meet basic needs while at the same time ensuring green investment and green buildings.
