Hue, the capital of Thua Thien Hue Province, participated in the GEF-6 Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) to advance climate-resilient and low-carbon urban development. Located on the central coast of Viet Nam along the Huong (Perfume) River, Hue is a UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its cultural and architectural legacy. Yet, it faces growing risks from sea level rise, typhoons, and both river and coastal flooding, which threaten its people, infrastructure, and heritage assets. Through the GPSC-supported project, Hue is piloting innovative technologies for climate adaptation and emissions reduction—approaches designed to enhance urban resilience and serve as models for other secondary cities across the country. The initiative integrates these technologies into urban planning and infrastructure design, strengthening the city’s capacity to manage natural hazards, protect its cultural landscape, and promote sustainable tourism and green growth.
