Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province in southwestern China, participated in the GEF-6 China Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot (SCIAP) to align its new metro development with integrated land-use and transit planning. As one of China’s most demographically diverse provinces, Guizhou faces rapid urbanization and topographic constraints. The program supported Guiyang in embedding TOD principles into its master plan, coordinating growth along transit corridors, and promoting compact, low-carbon development. These efforts strengthened the city’s capacity to manage expansion sustainably while improving mobility and reducing emissions.
