Finance

Innovative urban finance drives transformation by linking knowledge and investment. Cities mobilize public and private capital, adopt blended finance and green bonds, and integrate nature and climate goals into fiscal and investment frameworks.

Finance is a cornerstone of sustainable urban transformation. Access to innovative financial instruments—such as green bonds, blended finance, and impact investment—empowers cities to implement climate-smart infrastructure and nature-based projects. Strengthening municipal finance systems and engaging the private sector unlocks capital for long-term sustainability and resilience. Financial innovation turns ambition into action.

Mobilizing finance for sustainable urban infrastructure requires innovation and cross-sector partnerships. Through the World Bank’s Public–Private Partnership (PPP) Working Group, the GPSC supports cities and development partners in developing financial frameworks that leverage private investment for sustainable projects. The initiative provides tools, case studies, and guidance to help governments and MDBs unlock capital for climate-resilient and inclusive growth.
