GPSC Event at WUF9: Implementing the New Urban Agenda through a global sustainable cities platform: the GPSC

08 February 2018
11:30
  /
Room 307, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Malaysia

The Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) initiative is a model of partnership which combines technical support and funding for sustainable urban projects. GPSC is well aligned with the spirit and goals of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) which underscores three operational enablers for implementation --financing, urban planning, and provision of basic services and infrastructure -- by providing 1) technical knowledge and learning on integrated planning and sectoral topics, and 2) financing for sustainable infrastructure projects. This two-pronged approach serves as a practical example of how the NUA can be implemented.

The networking event will have a panel format in which the various actors involved in the project [GEF, Work Bank, WRI, ICLEI, C40, and a recipient country] will discuss the different aspects of the project, exploring how it can be a model for implementation of the NUA.

Moderator: Jessica Seddon, Director of Integrated Urban Strategy, World Resources Institute

The panel will be structured in a conversational style, with panelists responding to a range of questions. The audience will have the opportunity to address the panelists at the end.

Panelists:

  • Xiaomei Tan, Senior Climate Change Specialist, Sustainable Cities IAP Manager, GEF
  • Xueman Wang, Senior Urban Specialist, GPSC Coordinator, World Bank
  • Andrea Fernandez, Director of Governance and Global Partnerships, C40
  • Emani Kumar, Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI World Secretariat, Regional Director, ICLEI South Asia Secretariat
  • Datuk Nik Ahmad Faizul Abd Malek, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Malaysia Project Coordinator GPSC
