Welcome to the 12th edition of our Speakers Series on Cities on the Frontline, analyzing how cities around the world are responding to Covid-19. During this session Dr. Maurice D Kugler, Professor of Public Policy, Schar School of Policy and Government, George Mason University and Dr. Juan Mauricio Ramírez, Secretary of Finance for Bogotá, Colombia will talk us about the general framework on exit strategies being prepared for Bogotá. Cities are grappling with the massive economic costs of prolonging the lockdown while having concerns about premature reopening. Difficult tradeoffs emerge between saving lives and saving livelihoods. The consequences of lack of observance of guidelines from city authorities can cost lives. In the end, it could prolong the negative effect on livelihoods due to the negative impact on flattening the curve.

Cities in the Frontline is jointly organized by the Global Resilient Cities Network and the World Bank City Resilience Program. For access to the previous sessions’ materials, please see this page that is being updated regularly.
