One year has passed since the World Health Organization declared #COVID19 a pandemic, cities around the world are still on the frontline of responding to the crisis. In this special session, we want to reflect and explore lessons learned identifying how 2020 changed the way we work, the way investments flow, and our focus for the future. Join us as we discuss the next steps to move forward and in a better, more sustainable, resilient manner.

We will be joined by Dr. Saini Yang, Professor at the International Centre for Collaborative Research on Disaster Risk Reduction, Beijing Normal University, and Milan's CRO, Piero Pelizzaro to share the perspective from China and Italy, and how these regions are thinking about and actioning a resilient recovery. It's almost a year to the day that these two speakers were featured in our very first two sessions of the series in early 2020. Let's hear how far they've come.

We will be also joined by Dr. Duncan Shaw, Professor of Operations Research and Critical Systems, The University of Manchester, who has helped lead the collaboration between the University and R-Cities, to collect and share response and recovery lessons from around the world. Prof Shaw will discuss what does a resilient recovery look like and how can cities achieve it. This session has been co-created by The World Bank, Resilient Cities Network, and The University of Manchester.

Cities on the Frontline Speaker Series was a weekly speaker series co-organized by the Global Resilient Cities Network and the World Bank City Resilience Program from March to December 2020. The purpose of the series was to share knowledge to help cities respond to the pandemic crisis and plan towards recovery with resilience. Questions about the Speaker’s Series can be directed to media@resilientcitiesnetwork.org.
