The incredible amounts of data and information available nowadays can raise questions on how best to access and use this material, as well as what sources are credible and most reliable. Data driven decision making and modelling efforts can assist cities to better understand the risks facing communities, as well as to prepare for emergencies - shocks and stresses. Data also offers an unprecedented opportunity to engage stakeholders in unique ways with the potential to bring decisionmakers together in more inclusive and cohesive conversations.

Join us to understand how cities are collecting and applying data to address some of the most critical challenges being faced, such as climate change, inequity, and resilient infrastructure.

In this session, David Lallemant, Head of Disaster Analytics for Society Lab at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will join us to share about the latest climate scienceand what it means for establishing resilience in emerging cities. We will also be joined by Katia Tynan, Lead Resilience Planner and Acting Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Vancouver who will discuss the city’s work on implementing state-of-the-art hazard modelling tools to reduce risk through land-use, zoning, and urban design. Katia will also discuss the city’s efforts to engage residents, businesses, and community groups in testing ideas about the resilience of their own communities.
