GPSC organized the Global Online Series “Building Back Better” from October 1st to December 16th, 2020, which explored how cities can leverage the COVID-19 pandemic’s unprecedented disruption to facilitate a more environmentally and socially sustainable recovery. The weekly series brought together perspectives from city leaders, financial institutions, international agencies, and urban practitioners. This first series hosted 9 sessions that included a call for action, catalyzing private investment in climate smart cities, cities climate action planning, healthy cities, bringing nature to cities, resilient waste management, achieving zero-net carbon emissions, inclusive cities, and slum upgrading. 
 
More than 1,000 participants from more than 70 countries attended the sessions, including mayors and city leaders from more than 18 countries, such as: Argentina, Brazil, Sierra Leone, Finland, France, Kenya and China.
