City Overview
Nanchang is the capital city of a southeastern province called Jiangxi. The name of the city literally means “prosperous southern [city],” and is fast becoming known as a railway hub connecting East and South China. As of 2017, Nanchang has two metro lines in operation, Metro Lines 1 and 2. According to the Construction Plan for Urban Rail System Phase II (2015-2021), Nanchang’s metro system will consist of 5 lines at a total length of 197.5 km and 146 stations by 2021. The China Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot and the GPSC will support a strategy centered on a TOD-based spatial layout for the city’s growth along a low-carbon trajectory. The aim is to conduct overall TOD planning based on the experiences of Line 1 and eventually Line 2 to inform city-wide TOD policies and design guidelines.
