Urbanscapes Symposium: Public Spaces for City Transformation

World Bank’s first Urbanscapes Symposium was organized by the Urbanscapes Group April 5-6, 2016 in Washington, D.C. The event which was titled “Public Spaces for City Transformation” brought together experts, practitioners and users from different countries and backgrounds to review and discuss existing tools and approaches in implementing good public urban spaces, and to share their experiences from the field.
 
The two-day event was attended by more than 150 participants from different sectors and saw 18 external speakers, many of which are prominent experts in their fields. The agenda focused on the key themes of place-led developments, public space and streetscape transformation, urban places for economic development, measuring and innovating urban spaces, and safer and inclusive public spaces. A session on how to operationalize Urbanscapes in World Bank projects concluded the symposium.
