In December 2022, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) was signed at the 15th Conference of Parties (COP-15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The GBF is a historic agreement that seeks to reverse the decline of biodiversity by providing a strategic vision and global roadmap for the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems through 2030. The GBF includes four overarching global goals and 23 targets, with Targets 8 and 11 specifically linking biodiversity with increasing resilience through mitigation, adaptation, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) actions, including through Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and/or Ecosystem-based Approaches.

This Global Webinar aims to provide an opportunity for protected area managers, government representatives, and relevant actors to come together and discuss the importance of biodiversity for disaster and climate resilience, exchange best practices, identify challenges, and discuss collaboration toward the successful implementation of the GBF. The webinar's objectives are to present and communicate the importance of GBF Targets 8 and 11, define opportunities for cross-sectoral engagement, foster dialogue, and equip protected area managers, government representatives, and relevant actors working on DRR, climate resilience, and biodiversity in understanding the next steps for the implementation of the GBF, highlighting the role of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
