City Overview
Ningbo is capital city of an eastern province called Zhejiang. It is located at the junction of three rivers and is known as a busy port city. Ningbo currently has two metro lines in operation, with a total length of 72 km and daily ridership around 330 thousand passengers. According to the Urban Rail Plan of Ningbo (2013-2020), seven metro lines at a total length of 171.6 km are planned to be in operation by 2020. The China Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot and the GPSC will provide corridor-level implementation support of the TOD strategy, including guidance on the revision of zoning regulations along existing or planned public transit lines for better integration of land and public transit. According to the Asian Development Bank’s 2014 study on the most environmentally livable cities in China, Ningbo city was the top third of the table using 2011 data.
